MONTHLY MAGNUS - YOU'LL ALWAYS BE MY BABY (11 MONTHS)
January 3, 2018
Magnus turned 11 months on December 27, 2017, so predictably, this one is a few days late. With everything going on during the holidays, including a crazy travel schedule (travel posts coming soon hopefully!), there was just no way we were getting any photos taken or words written.
But, with that said, here goes 11 months!
What did you miss? Well, I am happy to report we're finally seeing some teeth! Two on the bottom, one on the top to be precise, with a lot more coming. They make for a pretty sweet little smile, and Magnus is happily chomping down on the foods we're giving him.
Speaking of foods, the guy eats EVERYTHING. And by everything, I mean everything D and I eat, including lettuce, spicy meatballs, Turkish mezze, everything my hometown's Christmas market has to offer, and more. It's very convenient for traveling with him, but also means that he will stare us down and yell at us if we are eating and not sharing. After that holiday food binge the entire family just went through, here's to hoping Magnus's food envy will inspire us to eat healthier!
Also this past month, I left Magnus for the first time ever. Up until December 14, I had never spent a single night away from him - and then, suddenly, I found myself on the other side of the world from my bub for an entire week! So, that was crazy... and had me feeling all kinds of mixed mom-feelings. But more on that in a separate post. Luckily, we facetimed a bunch (thank you, modern technology!) and the week flew by!
I was a liiiiittle worried how Magnus would handle transatlantic travel at this age, but he is, and I am maybe only very slightly biased, the best little traveler. Period. He is unfazed by take-off and landing, handles jetlag like a little champ, loves all cuisines and has exactly zero stranger danger (a fact that I am occasionally very conflicted (does he love me less than those other babies love their mommies?!) but mainly extremely relieved about). Every since he learned to pull himself up on stuff, he has been so much more mobile, crawling everywhere, pulling himself to stand and taking a look. If you hold both of his hands, he is also (veeeery slowly and veeeery carefully) taking his first little steps!
Maybe my favorite addition of the month are the party tricks. Oooooh the party tricks! Man, are they fun! Magnus knows what the airplane says (a farting noise), what the lion says (roarrr, obviously), how big he is (so big!), how to give us and his stuffed animal fox sweet kisses, how to high five, how to wave and how to clap his hands for applause. We are working on a couple more, so stay tuned and follow my insta stories!
Here's the twist though: So far, he only knows his party tricks in German! Seeing him understand and react to my mother language makes me so incredibly proud and happy! If you guys have been following momoetc, you know how important it was and is to me that Magnus grows up bilingual (here's my first post on the topic), so I am pretty excited to see what's coming in this department.
(Side note, the above photo is one of my favorites - it's so funny! We tried the bamba bribe again and it.... kind of worked? But he has (clearly) figured out multitasking. We're in trouble.)
He truly is a little sponge right now, which is so amazing, but also makes me a little nervous. It feels like now is the time that we start actually parenting a little person, as opposed to "just" keeping a tiny baby alive. And the next Monthly Magnus will be his first birthday, which I am just completely in denial about. At the end of this month we'll have a toddler, I mean whoa...
