CRYING BABIES WELCOME - MY FRIEND'S AWESOME STARTUP
August 4, 2017
If you read last weekend's post on raising a bilingual child, you may remember me mentioning Mindr - the website I originally wrote the post for. And since Mindr is a startup close to my own heart, I thought I'd introduce you guys!
Once upon a time, before I had Magnus, I used to be this well-rounded, social individual who was interested in stuff - you know, stuff other than feeding schedules, sleep patterns or baby milestones. I used to do things - you know, like actual things for myself, like read a book or listen to a podcast about somethingI find interesting. I used to go to events - you know, events other than mommy-and-me classes, playdates and playground hangouts - actual events like networking receptions, cocktail hours or talks.
Here's the thing, and beware, this is going to sound pretty groundbreaking... you don't stop being yourself when you become a parent. It's just that there's this adorable little person that you want to spend all your time with now, so given the choice between real-life adulting and baby snuggles, the baby snuggles are going to come up on top 98% of the time.
Mindr puts on talks, workshops, classes and events led by global experts, where crying babies are welcome. Topics range from feminism and politics to entrepreneurship, film, design and more. The people are awesome. The coffee and the snacks are on point. Sometimes there are flower crowns (which, for the avoidance of doubt, count as real-life-adulting). And of course the baby snuggles are part of the package because you can bring your very own sweet little snuggle bug - the best! It's basically like Mindr's founder Sarah has read my mind (/internet history), figured out exactly what I love, put it into a two-birds-with-one-stone, time-management-friendly package and added great coffee. I mean, 'nuff said, right?
Regardless of whether the time management aspect or the snacks caught your attention (or was it the flower crowns? Admit it, it was the flower crowns!), if you are in NYC, you should probably join us at a future Mindr event. The next one is on August 10 (next Thursday) from 2-4 pm at Irving Farm on the Upper East Side (1424 3rd Ave, between 80th and 81st Street). It'll be on female entrepreneurship with one of the founders of fashion brand MM.LaFleur (whose ads are currently all over the NYC subway!) - a true #momboss whom I can't wait to meet.
